1966 Morgan 34 Sloop for sale in Borough, Connecticut

$18,000

'Starlight' is a 1966 sloop rigged Morgan 34. Her LOA is 34' , and beam is 10'. She draws less than 3.5 ft with her centerboard up, and only 7 ft fully extended. The centerboard winch is located in the cockpit and uses the same winch handle as is used for the halyards winches on the mast. PROPULSION There are four sails, one mains'l which is new-ish and three hank-on heads'ls. These are: a colorful 170 drifter in good condition, a new-ish 125 jib, and a small heavy-wind jib in pretty good condition. She's powered by a Yanmar 3GM fresh water cooled diesel engine which develops 20 HP at cruising RPM of 3400, and 22.5 HP at max RPM of 3600. She seems to consume about 0.5 gallon per hour from her 20 gallon Monel tank. She was repowered in 1983 and the engine has been pampered since then as can be seen by its excellent outward appearance, still nicely painted as from the factory. There are two hour meters on her: one reads 1715 (which may have been from the original Atomic 4) and the other reads 505. I changed her oil at 500 hours. The hours on the engine could be the sum of the two meters or the new one plus some fraction of the old one. BELOW DECKS There is a conventional forward cabin with v-berth and filler piece between making a double berth. There are 12 vdc reading lights above both berths. Ventilation is provided by an overhead hatch and two SS opening ports. An added three inch think foam pad makes this berth quite decadent. Next aft, to port, is the head with sink, and to starboard is a locker with hanging shelves. There are two opening SS ports in the head and above the locker, as well as dorade vents in the overhead. Separating this area from the main cabin is a sliding pocket door which latches open and closed. The main cabin contains the galley arrayed along the starboard side with a dinette to port. There is a large cabinet outboard of and along the entire length of galley, giving a large storage space for dishes, utensils, and cookware. The galley counter contains a huge icebox forward and a stainless steel sink aft. The last 2 ft of galley is consumed by a gymballed non-pressurized alcohol stove. Below the stove are two storage shelves. Opposite the galley is a u-shaped dinette with storage behind the seat rest and a wide, full length shelf above. The original table drops to make a spacious berth. Two batteries and storage lockers fill the spaces under the seats. A new table unfolds from its stowed position against the bulkhead. Ventilation and light in the main cabin are provided by two SS opening ports and two long windows. Aft of the main cabin are two quarter berths, port and starboard, which have generous overhead room and are nearly 6.5 ft long. If unused as berths, bicycles could fit into them. There are reading lights above each berth. ABOVE DECKS The foredeck has ample space to work the heads'l changes. Wide side decks give easy access to the foredeck. The cockpit is typically large for the vintage of vessel and the original tiller has been replaced by wheel steering with a four inch compass atop the binnacle. There are two self tailing jib sheet winches and two secondaries. Cockpit lockers, port and starboard, contain five dock lines, four fenders, two anchors, a radar reflector and sundry lines. In the bilge is an electric bilge pump and in the port cockpit locker is a large manual pump. There is a teak grate on the cockpit sole forward of the steering binnacle. Electronics systems are minimal consisting of stationary VHF radio, autopilot, and depth sounder. Aft of the cockpit is a cavernous lazarrette which houses the water hose, shore power chord, bucket, swim ladder, and various 'stuff'. Two outside cooking stations are provided: a gas grill hangs from the stern rail and a really handy gymballed propane single burner stove hangs from the cabin bulkhead to starboard.
